The Seasons of Sullivan: Francoise Sullivan Overview
In a career that has spanned six decades, Francoise Sullivan (b. 1925) is a pioneer multi-disciplinary artist. As a visual artist she was a member of the Automatists, artists known for their advocacy of artistic and social change in Quebec in the 1940s. And as a dancer and choreographer she was the author of one of the first political treatises on dance published in Canada. This publication documents the revival of a dance project originally conceived by Sullivan in 1948 and dedicated to the cycle of the seasons. Sixty years later the work has been recreated by four contemporary dancers. Divided into four sections, the book records each dance with approximately 20 full page black and white photographs. With an essay on Sullivan's emblematic career.
